We are OBP certified!

Evergreen has received their Ocean Bound Plastics (OBP) Certification through Zero Plastic Oceans, an industry first in North America. This multisite certification makes us the first pet reprocessor for food grade pellet (certified). This can be used to create food grade containers and utilized in the bottle-to-bottle process, further enhancing the circular economy.
With this approval we can supply certified OBP rPET, making us the first in North America with this distinction.
This is another step to show that Evergreen does more than just talk about impacting the worlds oceans. We take action.
We listen to demand so we can impact our customer’s business, too. Currently, consumers aged 35-44 exhibit the highest likelihood of frequent bottled water consumption and 75% of Millennials are willing to pay more for an environmentally sustainable product, compared to 63% of Gen Z, 64% of Gen X, and 57% of Boomers (source)
Brands that choose to use Evergreen OBP rPET in their bottles may appeal to younger demographics that are more conscious of environmental/sustainable impacts. (source)
Ocean Bound Plastic (OBP) is a certification program created by Zero Plastic Oceans.
OBP is a defined as plastic litter or abandoned plastic waste that will be carried away to oceans, in particular, by the effects of currents, winds, river flowers, or tides.
The aim is to protect oceans from the continuous leakage of plastic waste from land-based activity into waterways that lead to oceans.
We are targeting Ocean Bound Plastics that are collected in the western hemisphere including areas of North America, Central America, South America, and the Caribbean.
In addition to protecting the world’s waters, these efforts contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions that result from shipping. This reduces our customers’ upstream scope 3 emissions, while also addressing the issues of plastic contamination of waterways in our own backyard.
“By incorporating this resource into your packaging, you’re contributing to a cleaner, healthier planet.”
At each stage of the logistic chain or processing, Evergreen Recycling must be able to prove that certified OBP has always been isolated from non-certified OBP or any other plastics.
This certification keeps us ahead of the pack. Our drive to identify innovative solutions on the forefront of the recycling industry has remained steadfast since Evergreen was first founded in 1998.
Evergreen Recycling doesn’t just talk about sustainability, we lead with it.
By achieving this certification and incorporating this into our future product offerings we are able to strengthen our efforts in #closingtheloop and collecting #everybottleback.
